The advertisement of toothpaste brand Sensodyne, which claims to remove tingling of teeth, has been banned. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has ordered a ban on the advertisement of Sensodyne. The ban on Sensodyne has been imposed over a misleading advertisement that claims it is recommended by the world’s top dentists and is the world’s number one sensitivity toothpaste. The CCPA has also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Sensodyne Company.
The CCPA, which comes under the Consumer Protected Act 2019, has rejected two of Sensodyne’s claims that it is the world’s number one sensitivity toothpaste and that the world’s top dentist recommends using Sensodyne.
The CCPA is investigating Sensodyne’s claim that their brand shows effect in 60 seconds and provides relief from toothache. Regarding this matter, the Consumer Affairs Department has said that Sensodyne is being investigated in Silvassa located in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The Assistant Drug Controller of the State Licensing Authority is probing Sensodyne’s claim. The scientific body present here will find out whether Sensodyne has the ability to provide relief within 60 seconds or not? Sensodyne is a GSK Consumer Healthcare product designed for oral sensitivity. Apart from Sensodyne, GSK Consumer Healthcare manufactures products such as Eno, Crocin and Otrivin. GSK is one of the oldest healthcare companies in India.
According to a CCPA official, the institute has taken suo motu cognizance of Sensodyne’s advertisements which run rampantly on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even TV and YouTube. Some doctors are shown in the advertisements of Sensodyne, then they practice outside the country. He says that he recommends the use of Sensodyne for sensitive teeth. Sensodyne recommends the use of Sensodyne Rapid Relief and Sensodyne Fresh Gel for sensitive teeth. The CCPA had asked Sensodyne to substantiate its claims in which the company says its use is recommended by dentists around the world. Second it is the world’s number one sensitivity toothpaste and third that it has been clinically proven that the paste gives relief in 60 seconds.
