Navjot Singh Sidhu has taken the front before the elections of the new state of Punjab Congress. Ahead of the election of the new state president, Navjot Singh Sidhu along with some former party MLAs had reached Behbal Kalan village to participate in the protests by the families of those killed in the 2015 police firing incidents.
Sidhu, who joined the protests, targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government for the delay in justice to the families. Earlier, Sidhu held a meeting with former party MLAs in Ludhiana to chalk out a strategy on the issues to be raised against the AAP government. This was the third meeting with party leaders before reaching Behbal Kalan.

Talking to the protesting families, Sidhu said that he has been raising the issue in his government and will continue to do so against the present government as well. On December 16, 2021, Sukhraj Singh, son of Krishna Bhagwan Singh, began an indefinite dharna over the government’s failure to deliver justice.
Sukhraj had alleged that for the last six years, the parties were using Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing incidents and sacrilege cases as political weapons to gain religious sentiments and grab power. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who reached Behbal Kalan, reiterated the demand for speedy justice in the matter.
