Aam Aadmi Party’s Bhagwant Mann is going to take oath as the Chief Minister on Wednesday after a massive victory in Punjab. National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and party MLAs will attend this special program of AAP. AAP had won 92 seats in the assembly elections held last week. At the same time, Congress was reduced to 18 seats. Apart from this, Mann, who came from Dhuri seat of Sangrur district, had won by more than 58 thousand votes.
News agency ANI quoted party sources as saying that apart from Kejriwal, no CM will be present in the program. The party has not invited former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi or any prominent leader and Union Minister for the swearing-in ceremony. Party sources said only AAP leaders and MLAs would attend the event. Apart from these, close and family members of Mann will also be a part of the ceremony to be held at 11.30 am.
Before this program to be held in Khatkar Kalan, the village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Mann had appealed to the people of the state to participate in the program. In the invitation given through video message, he asked men to wear Basanti turban and women to wear yellow dupatta. The special thing is that Mann himself is also wearing a yellow turban, which is seen associated with Bhagat Singh.
Born in the year 1973 in Satoj village of Sangrur, Mann started his career as a comedian. In the year 2011, he entered politics through the Punjab People’s Party led by Manpreet Badal. However, he had to face defeat from Lehargaga seat in the 2012 elections. In 2014, Mann joined AAP and won from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat. The special thing is that after defeating the veteran leader of Punjab, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, his popularity had increased.
