Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan has suffered a major setback. He will not be able to take oath in the assembly today. The court has rejected the petition of the jail administration, in which permission was sought to take Azam Khan to the assembly for swearing-in.
Oath is being administered to all the MLAs of the state who came after winning the UP Assembly. On Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath first took oath as MLA, followed by Leader of Opposition Akhilesh Yadav. After the oath of 343 MLAs on the first day, this trend continues even today.
However, some MLAs like Nahid Hasan, Azam Khan are in jail. Their swearing-in has not been done yet. Significantly, Azam Khan was earlier a Lok Sabha MP from Rampur. He has recently resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha. Azam Khan is currently lodged in Sitapur Jail.
