Birbhum violence case: Eight people were killed in violence on Monday at Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The matter was heard in the Calcutta High Court today. During the hearing, the CBI told the court that the national agency is ready to investigate the matter if the High Court orders it. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also summoned a report from the state government in this matter.
In fact, 10 people, including two children, were killed in the violence that erupted after the killing of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh in Birbhum district of West Bengal. In the Bagtui village where the arson took place, people are leaving the village due to fear. So far many have been arrested in this case. A public interest litigation has been filed by an advocate in the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter. The Chief Justice’s Bench began the hearing on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the advocate who filed the PIL informed the court about the death of two witnesses. The lawyer, who filed the petition before the court, said, “The SIT of West Bengal does not know how to investigate the matter. The evidence is important and no evidence will be dropped within a week.” During the hearing, the CBI has also said that the matter will be investigated. The National Agency told the court that if the High Court orders it, they can take up the investigation of the matter.
Mamata Banerjee on target of opposition
After the violence in Birbhum, the Mamata Banerjee government has been targeted by the opposition parties. Also demanded the resignation of CM Mamta. The opposition parties have even demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state. In response also, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while responding to the opposition’s attack, said, ‘The government is ours and we are concerned about the people of our state’.
