In Goa, the Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government for the second time in a row. It is reported that the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP-led government will be held on 23 March i.e. on Wednesday. In the Goa Assembly Election 2022, BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the state by winning 20 seats. At the same time, it is also being said that BJP has decided to hand over the command of the state to Pramod Sawant as CM.
Speaking to Times of India, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanawade said, “Supervisor Narendra Singh Tomar and Deputy Observer L Murugan will reach Goa on Wednesday and the BJP Legislature Party leader will be elected on the same day.” Once the leader is elected, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place. In Goa with 40 seats, the Congress was at number two after the BJP.
A senior party functionary said that the swearing-in ceremony could be held in the newly constructed Durbar Hall at Raj Bhavan. He said, ‘A decision will be taken soon regarding the venue of the swearing-in ceremony. Tomar and Murugan may also attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government.
Support of independent candidates
The BJP, which won 50 per cent of the seats in the Goa Legislative Assembly, needed 21 seats for a majority. However, independent legislators Chandrakant Shetye, Alexio Reginaldo Laurenso and Antonio Vaas have already declared their support for the party. Apart from this, the party has also got support from MGP MLAs Ramkrishna Dhavalikar and Jeet Arolkar.
