British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday paid a fine imposed by Scotland Yard for violating the COVID-19 lockdown and apologized in the matter. This case is related to organizing parties in ‘Downing Street’ in violation of COVID-19 restrictions. “I have paid the fine and I once again fully apologize,” Johnson told reporters in Buckinghamshire.
Earlier, Downing Street, the British prime minister’s office, confirmed on Tuesday that Johnson and Finance Minister Rishi Sunak had received information from the Metropolitan Police that they would be issued a “fixed penalty notice” (FPN). A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister and the Chancellor (Sunak) have received information today that the Metropolitan Police will issue fines notices to them.”
Boris Johnson’s wife, Carrie Johnson, is also one of the recipients of such notices. Her spokeswoman said: “In the interest of a transparent system, Mrs Johnson confirms that she has been informed that she will be receiving the FPN. They are yet to receive any further details about the nature of the FPN.
The case of parties held inside the UK Prime Minister’s office ‘Downing Street’ and government offices in violation of the lockdown implemented to prevent the spread of the corona virus is known as partygate. Due to widespread criticism in this matter, Prime Minister Johnson had to apologize in Parliament.
