You must have heard about different types of Holi. But you will also be surprised to know about the way Holi is played in Dungarpur, Rajasthan. In Bhiluda village here, colors are not thrown on Holi, but stone pelting takes place. Along with the people of the village, public representatives also take part in this. A sling and a guilloche are used to throw stones. This stone pelting game is played on Holi in front of Raghunath temple in the village.
Two groups are formed for stone pelting
On the second day of Holi, people from nearby villages, including Bhiluda, gather in the Raghunathji temple premises, performing non-dances to the beat of the drum. After worshiping in the temple, the gathered crowd automatically splits into two groups. After this people started dancing to the tune of Dhol Kundi. Suddenly another faction starts pelting stones. People find their place of defense in the field itself and then the Holi with stone pelting starts from there.

The villagers believe that the blood that falls on the ground due to stone pelting does not bring any calamity in the village and there is prosperity in the village. To avoid stones, the people of the village bring handkerchiefs, gamchas, shields, plates with them. In this stone-throwing Holi, which lasted for one and a half hours, stones hit people’s heads, hands, feet and mouth, due to which blood started flowing. A day earlier, 48 people from both the sides were injured in the stone-pelting Holi. The injured were taken to Bhiluda Hospital. Doctors treated the injured. Five injured were referred to Sagwara Hospital.
