Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik has justified the hoisting of the Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort during the farmers’ agitation. He said there was nothing wrong in it. Once again sharply criticizing the central government and its leaders for the farmers’ agitation, Malik called upon the farmers to unite to change power and form a farmers’ government. He said that after his tenure as governor ends, he himself will tour the country and unite the farmers. Malik said that the government made a half-hearted agreement with the farmers and lifted them from the dharna, but the matter remains the same.
The Governor alleged that a friend of the Prime Minister is keeping the dream of buying wheat at cheap prices by building a godown in an area of 50 acres in Panipat. Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik was addressing a Kisan Samman ceremony organized by Kandela Khap and Majra Khap at village Kandela here on Sunday. Malik also revealed that some of his friends had advised him that he could become the Vice President or the President, so he should keep quiet. But according to Malik, ‘I told him I don’t care about these positions.’
‘I was advised to keep quiet and become president’
He also said that the post of Governor is not important for him. He called upon the farmers to unite to change the power and form their own government in Delhi so that they do not have to demand anything from anyone, but people ask them. Malik expressed anguish that the Prime Minister’s residence (from the site of the farmers’ dharna) was only ten kilometers away, and that a large number of farmers lost their lives during his agitation that lasted for more than a year. “But no one from the government has come to express condolences,” Malik said.
‘The decision to hoist the Nishan Sahib was not wrong’
He said that I never compromised on the principles and raised the voice of the farmers regardless of my position. Justifying the hoisting of the Nishan Sahib flag at the historic Red Fort in Delhi by alleged agitators on January 26 last year, Malik said the decision was not wrong. He said that the Nishan Sahib which was hoisted was their (farmer’s) right. Regarding Article 370, Malik said that when he decided to abrogate Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, there was a political uproar. He said that PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti spoke of flowing rivers of blood, while National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah had said that no one would raise the country’s flag.
Said- The PM had given tea to those who went to jail after the end of 370
He said that the leaders who were put in jail after abrogating Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister got them released and served them tea. Regarding the assembly elections being held in Uttar Pradesh, Malik said that the results are yet to come, but no minister was allowed to enter western Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that he had seen Union Minister Smriti Irani running. After being awarded the ‘Kisan Samman Ratna’ during this function organized by the Khaps, Malik dedicated it to the kin of the farmers who lost their lives during the farmers’ movement. Expressing his support for the Khaps, Malik appealed for the education of girls, ban on mass eating and stop the dowry system.
