The Indian team suffered a close defeat at the hands of Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup on Saturday. Young batsman Yastika Bhatia believes that the result would have been different had he taken the opening wicket.
After losing to Australia by six wickets, the road to the semi-finals has become tough for India. At the same time, the Australian team reached the last four chasing a record target in the history of the tournament.
India scored 277 for seven with half-centuries from Mithali Raj, Yastika, Harmanpreet Kaur but Australia won on the back of fine innings from Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haines and Mag Lanning.
“The Australian team is in great form and every player is taking responsibility,” Ystika said after the match.
He said, “Mag Lanning scored 97 and she came with these intentions from the start. We came very close to victory, but had the initial success been successful, the outcome of the match would have been different.
He said that despite the great form, the Australian team can be defeated. “It’s not that they are invincible. We can beat them. We have a very good team and we will do that in the semi-finals or the finals.
Yastika said, “We had a good score but the Australian batsmen started well. Healy and Hans played aggressive innings. We should have taken wickets in the powerplays which would have put pressure on him but he played really well.” India will now have to beat both South Africa and Bangladesh.
