MS Dhoni has decided to step down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings two days before the start of the 15th season of IPL. Fans are very disappointed with this decision of Dhoni. MS Dhoni has been the captain of CSK since 2008. Under Dhoni’s leadership, Chennai Super Kings is the team to qualify for the most playoffs in IPL history. MS Dhoni has made the franchise four times IPL champions under his captaincy. Chennai Super Kings is the second most team in IPL history after Mumbai Indians.
Ravindra Jadeja will be seen leading the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni will represent the team as a batsman.
CSK said in a statement on Thursday, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has decided to hand over the command of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the experienced and oldest player of the team, Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be only the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.
It is noteworthy that CSK will start their 2022 IPL campaign against last season’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26.
Before the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Chennai Super Kings retained four of their star players. Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Rituraj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. But the franchise kept Jadeja in the team by paying more money than Dhoni, after which there were speculations that Jadeja could become the next captain of the team.
The franchise has attached Ravindra Jadeja to his team by paying a hefty amount of Rs 16 crore. MS Dhoni will get 12 crores.
