A statement by Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, known for his outspoken remarks, erupted in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He said that after playing a heroine, if an actress takes a character role, then it becomes difficult to become a heroine again. Similarly, it is difficult to install the features of new cars in old vehicles. The incident happened during Question Hour when Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari was answering supplementary questions on the star rating system for cars. Bharatiya Janata Party member Roopa Ganguly had asked him whether this facility can be available in two-three-year-old vehicles as the engines in such vehicles are in good condition.
In response, Gadkari said that the rating system is for new vehicles and it is difficult to do so in old vehicles. In this sequence, he said that it is difficult for a heroine to become a heroine again after doing character roles. Amidst the laughter of the members in the House, he said that the same thing applies to the hero as well. However, he later said that his comment was not about any member and should be taken as a joke. It is noteworthy that Roopa Ganguly has been a famous artist of TV and films and she played the role of Draupadi in the well-known serial ‘Mahabharata’ aired on Doordarshan.
Roopa Ganguly had asked that now better and better features are coming in new vehicles in terms of safety and convenience, but the vehicles which are two or three years old are new in a way, so what new features should these vehicles also have? can be equipped with. Gadkari said on this that just as an actress who once started a character role cannot be turned into a heroine again, similarly it is very difficult to mechanically introduce new features in old vehicles. He said that in view of the increase in road accidents, the government is running ‘India New Vehicle Assessment Programme’ called NCAP.
Gadkari said – now there is a provision of 6 airbags in every car
Under this, the cars sold in the country will be rated on the basis of safety. This program is being implemented in a phased manner. Gadkari said that every year five lakh accidents take place in the country in which about 1.5 lakh people die. This is a matter of concern and the government is taking continuous steps to rectify the situation. Now a provision has been made to install six air bags in all types of vehicles.
