BJP has opened account for the first time in Agra-Firozabad MLC (Local Authority) seat. SP has won this election thrice. In the last election, the SP candidate had won unopposed. This time there is enthusiasm in the BJP camp while SP supporters are disappointed.
In the year 2016, SP candidate Dr. Dilip Yadav had won this seat unopposed. Then the BJP candidates could not even file their nominations. This time also SP contested the election only for Dr. Yadav, but he was defeated by a record number of votes. Looking at the last election results, the ruling party candidates have got more success in the MLC seat.
Talking about the election results of the last three decades, SP has captured this seat thrice. In the year 1992, Anurag Shukla became MLC on Janata Dal ticket. Vijay Singh Rana from SP in 1998, Dr. Atar Singh Yadav from SP in 2004, Dr. Swadesh Kumar Veeru Suman from BSP in 2010 and Dr. Dilip Yadav from SP in 2016 won this seat.
The door-to-door strategy worked: This time the BJP fought the election under a complete strategy. Every voter of both the districts was closely monitored. Apart from the BJP candidate, the district and city officials contacted every voter door-to-door. Some voters had gone out of their respective districts. By contacting those voters, no stone was left unturned in getting them called for voting. On the day of polling also, voters were invited to cast their votes by calling them from home.
