A 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly posting an objectionable picture of Uttar Pradesh’s caretaker chief minister Yogi Adityanath and former chief minister Mayawati on social media in Greater Noida, adjoining Delhi.
Officials said that the accused had shared a morphed picture of Yogi Adityanath and Mayawati on Facebook on March 13. Keeping in mind the response of several social media users on this post, Jewar police had registered an FIR on suo motu cognizance.
A police spokesman said that the accused has been identified as Aamir Khan, a resident of Dayanatpur village under Jewar police station area. He was arrested on Tuesday morning near Sabota underpass.
Jewar police station SHO Umesh Bahadur said that Aamir Khan is a daily wage laborer and he is being produced in the local court as per the procedures. He said that the accused did not tell the police why he posted this morphed picture.
The FIR has been registered on the complaint of a local police officer, who had probed the matter after a Twitter user highlighted the issue.
According to the police, Aamir Khan has been booked under sections 152B (accusations and claims prejudicial to national integration), 505(2) (public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
