Punjab Election Result: The internal strife of the Congress in Punjab seems to have taken a toll on him. On one hand, state president Navjot Singh Sidhu is seen losing from Amritsar East, while CM Charanjit Singh Channi is also trailing from Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib seats. The Congress, which has been in power so far, is leading in only 16 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party is on the verge of a thumping majority with 91 seats. Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu has also accepted defeat with utmost humility. He tweeted and congratulated the Aam Aadmi Party on the victory. Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted, ‘Today people have the voice of God. With all humility I accept the mandate of Punjab. Congratulations.’
Navjot Singh Sidhu has also called a meeting of the newly elected MLAs of the party at 5 pm today. The anger of party leaders against Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was in the news due to differences with CM Charanjit Singh Channi and earlier confrontation with Captain Amarinder Singh, may increase further. Many leaders including senior Congress leader Manish Tewari, former state president Pratap Singh Bajwa, Sunil Jakhar have been against Navjot Singh Sidhu and have been opposing his working attitude. In such a situation, it is believed that due to these results, anger against them may increase further.
Already many Congress leaders had said about the mutual discord that this could harm the party. It is worth noting that in 2017 the Congress came to a majority with 77 seats and Captain Amarinder Singh ran the government for four and a half years. But in the last one year, there was a lot of discord and the Congress finally accepted the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh. This is the reason that on one hand the Congress was on the back foot due to the change of CM, while the feud between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi added to the difficulties.
