Just a few days before the start of IPL 2022, Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to step down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings. Ravindra Jadeja has now been given this responsibility in his place. With this, Dhoni’s tenure as captain in the IPL came to an end. Dhoni, associated with this team since 2008, has won 4 titles for Chennai. CSK won their last title in 2021 and are the second most successful team in the IPL. CSK will take the field this year with the intention of defending their title.
After Dhoni quit the captaincy, a video of his 2021 final is going viral on social media. This video is from the post presentation after the final match against KKR. In the video, Harsha Bhogle asked Dhoni, ‘Thank you for the wonderful work you have done for the team for so many years. You are leaving behind a legacy.
Dhoni laughingly replied to Harsha saying, ‘But I have not given up yet.’ These were some of Dhoni’s last words as captain of CSK.
Since this statement of Dhoni, there was speculation that he would play the IPL 2022 season, but no one knew that he would play as a player only as a captain.
Dhoni is preparing the future captain of CSK in the form of Jadeja. It is similar to how he groomed Virat Kohli for Team India. Now it has to be seen whether CSK is able to defend the title after Dhoni quits the captaincy.
