West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has invited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Raj Bhavan to discuss the Birbhum violence. In a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Governor termed the recent incident as worrying and asked her to find time for talks at the earliest. The Governor has said in the letter that the recent worrying incidents reflect the heightened chaos and violence in the state.
Dhankhar wrote in a letter to Mamta Banerjee, ‘The recent worrying developments reflect increased chaos and violence. In such a situation, it is important that you take out time as soon as possible for a conversation in Raj Bhavan. From the point of view of constitution and law, the already lax governance in the state has been made more tense by the recent incidents in Rampurhat and Vidhan Sabha.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is currently camping in Darjeeling. He said on Monday that the Trinamool Congress-led government in West Bengal would cooperate with the central agency, but warned that his party would hit the road to protest if the CBI did something at the behest of the BJP.
In his letter, Dhankhar has expressed concern over the statements of Mamata Banerjee in which the Chief Minister had threatened to hit the road in protest against the CBI probe. He said that the CBI investigation of the incident is being done under the supervision of the Calcutta High Court. The letter from the Governor to the Chief Minister has been sent a day after the suspension of five BJP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Shubhendu Adhikari, from the remaining session.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has accused the governor of representing the BJP. TMC believes that the law and order situation in West Bengal is better as compared to most of the states. Whatever sporadic incidents have happened, the Chief Minister has taken strict action against them. He said that the governor knows that the BJP has lost its public support and hence it is trying to raise issues to defame the government.
