Suspended West Bengal BJP leader Jai Prakash Majumdar joined Trinamool Congress in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata today. Majumdar has been given the post of TMC Vice-President. A few days ago, Majumdar had criticized the party leadership for underestimating the old and giving more importance to the new ones. At the same time, he praised Trinamool Congress chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a ‘street fighter’.
Addressing the state committee meeting, TMC chief and CM Mamata Banerjee said that we have to be proactive….we have to give a call for 2024 general elections to remove BJP. Prashant Kishor was also present in Mamata’s extended state committee meeting. On the uproar in the assembly, CM Mamata Banerjee said, “BJP is a ‘rioter’ and corrupt party… They want to destroy democracy. I thank the women MLAs of TMC for saving democracy in the assembly tomorrow.”
Majumdar had criticized the BJP high command
Majumdar was suspended along with Ritesh Tiwari for violating party discipline. Majumdar accused the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) state unit leadership of tying up with the Trinamool Congress and colluding with I-PAC, a consultancy run by Prashant Kishor. “Old and experienced leaders have no place in the state unit. Leaders of other parties, agents of Trinamool Congress are getting attention now,” he said.
Majumdar had said in a press conference with Tiwari that the BJP had to face defeat in the assembly elections as leaders were running it from other states which disappeared after the defeat. Even at present, the BJP is being run by some outsiders. This will prove fatal for the BJP in the state. He lauded Banerjee as a “street fighter” during this period and said the state BJP was more dependent on “running the courts” on every issue rather than holding street protests against the Trinamool Congress.
