Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet BJP MPs from West Bengal on Wednesday. This meeting between PM Modi and MPs is going to happen regarding Birbhum violence in Bengal. PM Modi has called MPs for breakfast meeting. CBI probe into Birbhum violence case has started. On Monday, there was a lot of uproar in the Vidhan Sabha on this issue as well. There has also been news of a scuffle between the ruling and opposition MLAs.
According to the India Today report, BJP MPs from Bengal are in Delhi for the ongoing budget session of Parliament. These MPs have to attend the breakfast meeting with PM Modi at 8.30 am on Wednesday. A woman who suffered burn injuries in the violence at Bogtui village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district died in a hospital on Monday. With this, the death toll in this incident has increased to nine.
The incident has created a political storm in both the Houses of Parliament for the past few days with aggressive stances by BJP MPs against the TMC. BJP MPs held placards and raised slogans demanding the resignation of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly has demanded imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal. He has termed the Birbhum incident as mass murders.
On the other hand, in the West Bengal Assembly too, this issue was heated on Monday. TMC and BJP MLAs hurled punches at each other after a heated argument over the Birbhum violence case, following which the Speaker suspended five BJP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari. As soon as the assembly session began, BJP MLAs started creating ruckus and reached the Speaker’s podium, demanding a statement from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the “deteriorating” situation in the state in the backdrop of Birbhum violence. Eight people were burnt alive in this violence last week.
The death toll in the Birbhum violence case has reached 9 on Monday. A woman who sustained severe burns in the incident succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Seven women and two children were among the dead. At the same time, three people including a child are being treated in the hospital. CBI officials probing the case could not record Najma’s statement on Sunday as her condition was critical.
