Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday claimed that the Indian government was monitoring the situation in Ukraine since January and that the successful evacuation of Indians from the war-torn country would be considered in the assembly elections in five states. There will be a positive effect.
Addressing a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, Shah said the government had issued an advisory for Indians living in Ukraine on February 15 itself. It is known that on February 24, Russia started military action in Ukraine. He said that the government has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine since January.
He said, “More than thirteen thousand citizens have reached India and many planes are yet to bring Indians. It has had a positive impact on the people as well as the elections.” The Indian government has launched “Operation Ganga” to bring back Indians stranded in Ukraine.
Shah said, “The government has deployed Russian speaking parties in countries adjoining Ukraine and has also set up a control room. We have been able to bring back 16,000 citizens safely till March 4.
It is noteworthy that the government had asked the Indian students trapped in Ukraine to try to reach the countries bordering Ukraine by any means. The government is bringing back Indian nationals from Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland by air.
