UPSC Chairman: He lost his father at a very young age, failed in 12th, even sold incense sticks, did not accept defeat

UPSC Chairperson Manoj Soni Story: Manoj Soni is an inspiration for those youths who keep cursing their lives by counting their shortcomings. Something similar happened with Manoj Soni. On one hand, he lost his father in childhood, and on the other hand, he had to sell incense sticks on the streets to earn a living, but he never gave up his desire to study and the passion to do something big. He kept moving ahead with courage. Finally, one day he reached the post of Chairman of the same UPSC, in which selection was once his dream, but he failed twice. Who knew that a day would come when he would become the Chairman of the same UPSC.

I left my father’s side in the 5th class
Dr. Manoj Soni was born on 17 February 1965 in Mumbai. When he was in the fifth class, his father passed away. All the responsibilities of the family fell on his mother and Manoj. The situation became such that he had to sell incense sticks on the streets of Mumbai to support the family and for his studies.

had to leave mumbai
Due to poor financial condition, Manoj’s mother decided to leave Mumbai and his mother moved from Mumbai to Anand in Gujarat in 1978. Despite all these circumstances, Manoj did not leave his studies. He studied till 12th from Anand city itself. The interesting thing here is that he gave the 12th Science exam, but he failed in this exam. After which he studied Arts Faculty from Raj Ratna PG Patel College. After 12th, Manoj studied BA and MA from MS University, Vadodara. Apart from this, Manoj Soni completed his studies in International Relations from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar.

Gave UPSC exam twice
Manoj Soni was short of money but not of courage. Hence, like others, he too dreamt of becoming an IAS or IPS. For this, he gave the UPSC exam twice but failed in the prelims the first time and cleared the written exam the second time but could not clear the interview. His dream remained unfulfilled.

He became the chairman of UPSC in 2017
Call it luck or coincidence, Manoj Soni failed the UPSC exam twice, but in 2017 he got the opportunity to become the chairman of the same UPSC, a post he held till now. Media reports are claiming that Manoj Soni has resigned from this post, although it has not been officially confirmed yet. Earlier, he was also the Vice Chancellor of many universities. He was the Vice Chancellor of MS University and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU). When he was appointed Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sayjirao University, Vadodara, he was just 40 years old. In this way, Manoj also holds the record of becoming the youngest Vice Chancellor of the country.
