Statement of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh

After the resignation of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman Manoj Soni, the Congress on Friday claimed that there are many people who have corrupted the system. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned why National Testing Agency (NTA) chief Pradeep Kumar Joshi was retained. He said that it was clearly visible that Soni would be removed in view of the current controversy in the UPSC. UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni has resigned from his post citing “personal reasons”. His term was to end in May 2029, official sources said on Saturday.

Jairam Ramesh took aim

“Since 2014, the sanctity, prestige, autonomy and professional approach of all constitutional bodies have been badly damaged. But from time to time even the self-proclaimed non-biological PM is compelled to say enough is enough,” Ramesh posted on ‘X’. “Narendra Modi brought in one of his favourite ‘academics’ from Gujarat as UPSC member in 2017 and made him chairman for a six-year term in 2023. But this so-called eminent gentleman has now resigned five years before his term ends,” he wrote.

Jairam Ramesh said- why is the chairman of NTA still left

“Whatever the reasons, it was clearly felt that he would be removed given the current controversy surrounding the UPSC,” Ramesh said. “Many more such persons have corrupted the system. Take the NTA chairman, for example. Why is he still alive?” He added that Soni’s resignation has “nothing to do with the questions being raised on the Union Public Service Commission” following the case of probationary IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer Pooja Khedkar.
