New Delhi. If you are planning to buy an electric car, bike or any other vehicle in this category, then make up your mind quickly. A little delay can cause you a loss of lakhs of rupees. We are saying this because the subsidy period from the central government on electric vehicles has been extended for two months. If you buy your vehicle within these two months, then you can also get its benefit.

The Modi government on Friday announced the extension of the Electric Transport Incentive Scheme (EMPS) for two months. Not only this, the total expenditure for subsidy has also been increased to Rs 778 crore. This scheme was launched by the Ministry of Heavy Industries in March this year. Its purpose is to promote the use of electric vehicles (EV) across the country. According to a report, the Delhi government gives a subsidy of Rs 30,000 and the central government gives a subsidy of Rs 10,000 on a two-wheeler of five thousand kilowatts.

Subsidy period extended by two months…
The EMPS scheme was originally scheduled to run from April 1, 2024 to July 31, 2024, with a total expenditure of Rs 500 crore then. According to an official statement, ‘The scheme has been extended by two months i.e. till September 30, 2024. Apart from this, the expenditure of the scheme has also been increased to Rs 778 crore.’ The scheme aims to advance the government’s green energy initiative and promote the development of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing system in the country.

The EV categories under the scheme include electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers including registered e-rickshaws and e-carts. With an emphasis on providing affordable and eco-friendly public transport options to the common people, the scheme will primarily apply to e-two-wheelers and e-three-wheelers that are registered for business purposes. Apart from this, registered e-two-wheelers owned by private or corporate owners will also be eligible under the scheme.
