New Delhi: Out of the medical checkup of about 10,500 prisoners in Tihar Jail, 125 prisoners were found HIV positive while 200 prisoners were found to have syphilis. After this investigation, the jail administration has become more active and vigilant than before. According to the report, these are the same prisoners who were found to be infected with the HIV virus even when they were brought to the jail.
In Tihar Jail, the biggest jail in Delhi and one of the most popular jails in the country, medical screening of prisoners is done regularly. The recent check-up was done after the arrival of the new DG in Tihar. According to this report published in NDTV, after the new DG Satish Golcha took charge in Tihar Jail, these medical check-ups were done in the months of May and June. Medical check-ups of women were also done and those tests were also done which are related only to women’s health.
Syphilis patients were also found but…
Meanwhile, on the initiative of the new DG, the Protective Survey Department of Tihar Jail, in collaboration with AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital, also got the female prisoners tested for cervical cancer. Out of the male prisoners who underwent medical screening, 200 prisoners were found to be suffering from syphilis. No case of TB was found.
