Is MRI Better Than CT Scan: When a problem arises in the body, diagnostic imaging is done to detect it. In common parlance, it is called scanning. Diagnostic imaging helps in detecting most of the diseases of the body. By now you must have heard about X-ray, CT scan and MRI. All these three techniques are used to detect problems in the internal parts of the body. Do you know what is the difference between CT scan and MRI? Let’s try to understand in simple language.
of Hopkins Medicine Report According to him, CT Scan is the most commonly used diagnostic imaging, which is called Computed Tomography Scan in medical language. Blood clots in the brain, organ injuries, bone fractures and other internal injuries can be detected through CT Scan. Sometimes CT Scan is done to detect bone fractures which cannot be detected in X-ray.
CT Scan has a machine in which a person is made to lie down and a radiation is sent inside his body. This creates a computerized 360-degree image of the body structure. CT scan is a fast process of imaging and this scan is done in emergency conditions. You will be surprised to know that it takes only 1 to 2 minutes to do a CT scan. In such a short time, the image of the internal part of the body is prepared.
Talking about MRI, it is also a scan, which is called Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Many experts consider MRI to be an advanced version of CT scan. MRI has a large machine, in which the person is made to lie down and sent inside. This machine has very powerful magnets, which pass radio waves throughout the body. During this, the protons of the body react and create a clear image of the body’s structure.
MRI creates images of the soft tissues, nerves and blood vessels inside the body. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, radiation is not used in MRI. According to experts, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to do an MRI. MRI is recommended for sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. Sometimes MRI is used to see things that are not clear in CT scans.
