Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh gave a statement on the preparations of the Indian hockey team for the Paris Olympics 2024.
PR Sreejesh Indian Hockey Team: After the opening ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024 is completed on 26 July, the medal events will also start from 27 July. This time the Indian hockey team participating in the Olympics is expected to perform better than the Tokyo Olympics where they had to be content with the bronze medal. The Indian hockey team has got a place in Group B in the Paris Olympics, in which it will play its first match against the New Zealand team on 27 July. This time Argentina and Australia are also in India’s group, due to which it is also being considered as the Group of Death. In such a situation, what will be the strategy of the team, in a special conversation with India TV Sports Editor Sameep Rajguru, experienced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh talked about this.
Our first attempt is to make it to the quarter finals
In an exclusive interview with India TV, PR Sreejesh said that our team’s first aim is to qualify for the quarter-finals by winning more matches in the group. We will have to play the matches against New Zealand, Ireland and Argentina very seriously in which we will try to get more points because after that we have to play against Belgium and Australia and both these matches will not be easy for us. Both these teams immediately take advantage of the mistakes of the opposing team and we will have to keep our defense strong against them.
The players have the confidence that we are no less than anyone
Regarding the current mindset of the Indian hockey team, PR Sreejesh said that now the players have gained the confidence that we are no less than anyone, apart from this, we are getting a chance to play more matches against the top 8 to 9 teams throughout the year, which has also increased the confidence of the players. Regarding his last Olympics, Sreejesh said that he took this decision keeping in mind his family and other responsibilities.
