Gautam Buddha (symbolic)
New Delhi: The World Heritage Committee (WHC) has now given a big decision regarding the place in Nepal where Lord Buddha was born. In its ongoing session here on Thursday, the WHC decided not to include Lord Buddha’s birthplace Lumbini in Nepal in the list of endangered heritage sites. A senior UNESCO official gave this information.
Lumbini was included in the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1997. But now this decision has been taken a day after the World Heritage Council examined Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). After this, it was decided not to put this World Heritage Site, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, in the list of endangered heritage sites of the world.
Session is being organized in India
The session of WHC is currently being held in India. This organization works to preserve all the ancient heritages of the world. All the historical buildings of the world have been included in the list of WHC. But now Lumbini has been excluded from it. The official said that both Stonehenge and Lumbini were earlier recommended to be included in this list. The 46th session of WHC is being held for the first time in India on 21-31 July. The Stonehenge site was discussed on Wednesday, while the Lumbini heritage site was discussed in the meeting held on Thursday. (Language)
