When Javed Akhtar doubted AR Rahman’s ability, he said- ‘I was a little scared, because…’

New Delhi. Lyricist Javed Akhtar and famous music composer AR Rahman have worked together for many films. Deepa Mehta’s film ‘1947 Earth’ is also included in this list. Recently, Javed Akhtar shared his experience of working with Rahman. He talked about the making of the song ‘Ishwar Allah’ and told that he was a little scared in the beginning. He was doubtful whether AR Rahman would be able to compose the song because his first language is not Hindi.

During a conversation with O2india, Javed Akhtar said that AR Rahman usually used to compose a tune first and then Javed used to write the lyrics. However, for the song ‘Ishwar Allah’, he adopted a different method. AR Rahman asked Javed Akhtar to first write the song, then prepare its tune. Due to this change, Javed was initially in doubt about AR Rahman.

Nobody can make this song better than him
Javed Akhtar said, ‘This is one of the few songs that I have written. AR Rahman has given the music. This was the first time he told me to write it first and then I will compose it. I was a little apprehensive because Hindi is not his first language. How will he compose it? Anyway, I wrote the song and I don’t think anyone could have made this song better than AR Rahman. His composition was superb.’

The film ‘1947 Earth’ was released in the year 1999
It is worth noting that ‘1947 Earth’, directed by Deepa Mehta, was based on Bapsi Sidhwa’s book ‘Cracking India’, which was based on the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. This was the second film of Deepa Mehta’s most popular trilogy ‘Fire’ (1996) and ‘Water’ (2005). Interestingly, ‘1947 Earth’ (1999) was India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards.
