Mumbai. Why was Suryakumar Yadav made the captain of the Indian T20 team instead of Hardik Pandya? This question has been arising in the minds of all cricket lovers since the announcement of the team for the Sri Lanka tour. Now BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar has given the reason for this in a press conference on Monday morning. He said that the decision to make Suryakumar Yadav the captain was taken keeping in mind the factors of fitness, feedback received from the dressing room and constant availability.

Ajit Agarkar was addressing a press conference on Monday along with the team’s new chief coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. On this tour, the Indian team will play three T20 and as many ODIs against hosts Sri Lanka starting on July 27. During this joint press conference, Agarkar said, “Fitness was a big challenge and we wanted someone who would be available often.” He said, “He is one of the best T20 batsmen and as captain, he is expected to play all the matches. We think he is a capable captain and we will see how he fits into this role.”

We have got some more time and we can look into some things.” Agarkar said, “Fitness was a big challenge and we wanted someone who would be available often.” He further said, “We have also taken a consensus from the dressing room.” When asked about the neglect of former vice-captain KL Rahul, he replied, “I was not there when KL was removed.”

The T20 series against Sri Lanka will start on July 27, followed by matches on July 28 and 30. All these matches will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
