Washington: The White House, the official residence and office of the US President, has said that Joe Biden is committed to attending the annual summit of the leaders of the Quad countries to be held in India this year. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby said in a press conference here, “We are still committed to attending the Quad leaders’ summit to be held there this year, but nothing has been set on the calendar in this regard yet.”

These countries are included in the Quad

‘Quad’ is Biden’s initiative and its member countries are Australia, Japan, India and America. Biden organized an online summit of the leaders of the ‘Quad’ countries in the first 100 days of his tenure as President in the year 2020. Since then, the ‘Quad’ leaders have been holding annual summits in turn. This year India will host the summit.

What did John Kirby say?

John Kirby said that since Biden is not in the presidential election race this time, it can certainly be expected that many such dates will be available in the future, which were not there earlier. He said, “So we are all considering how these dates can be used to advance the foreign policy agenda and capitalize on national security opportunities here and around the world. I have nothing to say about the scheduled dates at the moment. (Language)
