New Delhi, 5 October (). Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has expressed grief over the deaths and losses due to heavy rains and landslides in different parts of West Bengal and Sikkim. Rahul Gandhi shared the post on social media platform ‘X’ and said that due to heavy rains and landslides in various parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, the news of death of many people and disappearance of many others is very sad.
He said that he expresses deep condolences to the affected families and expects the missing people to get safe as soon as possible. There is an appeal to the administration to expedite relief and rescue operations further. The central government is urged to provide necessary assistance to the immediate affected states in view of the seriousness of the situation.
Along with this, Congress leaders and workers are requested to cooperate with the administration and help the affected people in every possible way.
Earlier, NDRF told X that with the help of local administration, rescue operation is being conducted in flood affected areas. Work is being done to deliver people trapped in the floods to safe places. The NDRF said that during the rescue operation in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, 105 people were taken out by boats and 55 people via zip line. A dead body has also been found during this period.
Let us know that 13 people have died so far due to heavy rains and landslides in Darjeeling in West Bengal. Many roads have been damaged due to landslides. In these circumstances, the West Bengal Police has issued a helpline number to help tourists.
The Bengal Police wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Some of the roads of Darjeeling were flooded due to heavy rains on Saturday night, which disrupted traffic. The road cleaning is going on and general traffic is expected to be restored soon. Those who are trapped or needed help can contact Darjeeling Police Control Room on +919191478 89078.”
According to officials, 9 people died after falling an iron bridge in Mirik of Darjeeling, while 4 people were killed in Sukhia area due to separate landslides.
