Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has started flattering US President Donald Trump. On Tuesday (October 7), he praised Trump and described him as a president who likes change. It is noteworthy that the Canadian Prime Minister also justified Trump’s false claims by citing the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
During bilateral talks with Trump in the Oval Office, Carney said, “You are a transformational president. The transformation of the economy, the commitment to defense spending by NATO allies, peace efforts from India and Pakistan to Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the weakening of Iran as a terrorist force, all have been possible under your leadership.”
India rejected Trump’s claims
Carney, who was elected Prime Minister in April, visited the White House in May this year. Trump has repeatedly reiterated his claim that he helped reduce tensions between India and Pakistan. However, India has categorically rejected any role of any third party in delaying military action with Pakistan. India launched Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. During this operation, nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were targeted. More than 100 terrorists were killed during this operation.
Increasing distance between India and America
Regardless, relations between India and America are currently going through a period of turmoil. Trump imposed 50 percent tariff on India and then tightened visa rules. While distancing himself from India, Trump has also improved his relations with Pakistan. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir recently went to the White House to meet Trump.
