New Delhi . Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Wednesday highlighted India’s tremendous progress in railway modernization under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the results of the last 11 years are now clearly visible. Speaking at the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) in New Delhi, Union Minister Vaishnav said that in the last 11 years, 35,000 km of new railway tracks have been built and 46,000 km of railway tracks have been electrified. Also, 40,000 new coaches have been manufactured.” Regarding the first bullet train project, he further said, “The construction work is progressing very fast and work up to 325 kilometers has already been completed.
He said he was recently on a tour of Surat and Bilimora stations, which will be part of the first section to open in 2027.
Giving information, Union Minister Vaishnav said that today we have 156 Vande Bharat services, 30 Amrit Bharat services and 4 Namo Bharat services, all of which have become extremely popular across the country.
During his speech, Union Minister Vaishnav appreciated the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for organizing IREE and also appreciated the participation of equipment manufacturers and railway organizations.
Speaking to the media after the event, the Union Minister said that CII is organizing the Indian Railways Equipment Exhibition and it is a very important exhibition.
He informed that all the equipment manufacturers from about 15 countries and a large number of MSMEs are present in the program.
“This is the time when we have to reconsider the quality of our equipment, new technologies required for modernization of railways and all the points that we have discussed in the exhibition today,” the Union Minister said.
He further added, “Many of the new equipment required by our country is manufactured in India today. India is emerging as a country that manufactures, designs and exports railway equipment, so this exhibition is an important milestone. We have also discussed with the team some of the key next goals for the coming 3 to 4 years and the entire industry is excited by the Prime Minister’s focus today on railway modernization and expanding railway coverage.”
