Congress on Saturday said that US President Donald Trump has again claimed that India will not buy crude oil from Russia but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is maintaining silence.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh cited Trump’s latest statement in which he has said that India will no longer buy crude oil from Russia.
Trump had also claimed a few days ago that his “friend” Prime Minister Modi had personally assured him that India would no longer buy crude oil from Russia.
Ramesh posted on ‘X’ on Saturday, “President Trump has once again said that his good friend has assured him that India will reduce oil imports from Russia. But that good friend suddenly turns into Mouni Baba when President Trump says that he has stopped Operation Sindoor and now when he says that India will reduce oil imports from Russia.”
“Meanwhile, India’s trade deficit with China during April-September 2025 increased to $54.4 billion as compared to $49.6 billion in the same period last year,” he said.
After Trump’s previous claim regarding the import of crude oil from Russia, the Indian government had said that it is broadening and diversifying the base of energy sources as per the market conditions.
Responding to Trump’s claim, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that protecting the interests of Indian consumers in the volatile energy scenario has been the government’s constant priority.
