New Delhi. Ola company engineer committed suicide by consuming poison. The name of the deceased was Arvind, he had consumed poison on September 28 at his home in Chikkalasandra, Bengaluru. The deceased had left a suicide note of 28 pages. In that suicide note, he had made several allegations against the company’s founder Bhavish Aggarwal and his senior Subrata Kumar Das of mentally torturing him. The brother of the deceased engineer lodged a complaint with the police on the basis of the suicide note, after which an FIR was registered against the company’s founder Bhavish Aggarwal and others. The police are currently investigating the matter.
On the other hand, the company has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court demanding cancellation of the FIR against its founder Bhavish Aggarwal and other employees. Ola has issued a statement in this regard saying that we are deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of our colleague Arvind and our thoughts are with his family in this difficult time. Arvind was associated with Ola Electric for more than three and a half years and was based at our headquarters in Bengaluru. During his tenure of three and a half years, Arvind never filed any complaint regarding any harassment.
The position in which Arvind was working did not have any direct contact with the top management including the promoter of the company. Therefore it is unfair to blame the company founder. It has also been told by the company that in order to provide immediate assistance to the family after the death of Arvind, the company immediately provided the facility of final settlement and transferred the amount to his account. The Company is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful and supportive workplace for all of its employees.
