Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta appealed to the people to save the national capital from pollution by using only green firecrackers during Diwali. Gupta encouraged people to celebrate the festival in the traditional way by lighting lamps, making rangoli and distributing sweets.
In a message to the people of Delhi, he said that the festival of lights, Diwali, should be celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. The Chief Minister said, “On this festival of lights, my heart is filled with happiness and joy for all of you.”
The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the sale and use of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) during Diwali with certain conditions. Green firecrackers can be used from 8 am to 10 pm on Diwali.
Earlier there was a complete ban on the manufacture, sale and use of firecrackers.
