Bhilwara. Will candidates with more than two children now be able to contest elections in the municipal elections to be held in the coming months? Because the government is considering that relaxation in child-related eligibility should be given to the candidates in the upcoming elections. Bhilwara city MLA Ashok Kothari said that he had recently written a letter to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in this regard requesting that the eligibility of more than 2 children in the upcoming municipal body (Municipality, City Council, Municipal Corporation, Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad) elections should be reconsidered. Kothari also said that on the instructions of the Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra is discussing with top officials. Kothari also said that there is a clear provision in Section 24(17) of Rajasthan Municipal Act 2009 and Section 38(2) of Panchayati Raj Act 1994 that if the number of children increases after November 27, 1995, if a person has more than two surviving children, then he will be considered ineligible to contest elections.
Expressing concern over qualification, experience and social balance, Kothari underlined the negative effects of this provision and said that due to this rule many qualified, experienced and popular persons are deprived of contesting elections. At the same time, this provision is disturbing the social balance of the population between different sections, which can become a matter of concern for the internal security and order of the state in future. Families having more than two living wives should also be controlled by public welfare schemes.
