Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced in the Assembly on Saturday that extreme poverty has been eradicated from the state. Vijayan made this announcement in a special session of the House convened on the occasion of Kerala’s ‘Piravi’ or Foundation Day.
The Chief Minister made this announcement in the special session of the House called on the occasion of Kerala’s Foundation Day. At the same time, the Congress-led United Democratic Front has termed this claim of the government as a complete fraud.
As soon as the special session of the Assembly began, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan said that according to the Central Government, there are about 5.9 lakh such families in the state who fall in the category of ‘very poor among the poor’. To whom the Central Government issues Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards and provides them free rice, grains and flour as ration. He asked that if the state government declares that Kerala has become free from extreme poverty, will the central government stop giving benefits to the card holders of ‘Antyodaya Anna Yojana’ due to this.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan said the CM’s statement through Rule 300 is complete fraud and contempt of the rules of the House. He said that because of this we will not attend this House and are completely boycotting the session. Opposition leaders also raised slogans calling the CM’s claim fraudulent and shameful.
At the same time, while responding to the allegations of the opposition, the Chief Minister said that when the UDF says the word fraud, it is talking about its own behavior. CM further said that we only say what we can implement. He further said that we have implemented what we had said and this is my answer to the opposition leaders.
