Lucknow, Amrit Views: Tourism Department has approved the scheme of tourism development of Ahichhatra located in Bareilly under Mahabharata Circuit. An amount of Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for this.
This information was given by Tourism and Culture Minister Jayveer Singh on Saturday. He told that Ahichhatra has special religious significance of the holy site of Mahabharata and the holy site of Jain religions. After the Dwapara Yuga, Ahichhatra was also ruled by Gupta, Pal and Sen kings. The glory of Ahichhatra continued in every changing era. Facilities like entrance, beautification, lighting, toilets, information centers, drinking water system, construction of resting place will be developed in tourism development.
The Tourism Minister said that Ahichhatra was called the capital of the North Panchal Pradesh mentioned in Mahabharata. There is a fort of Mahabharata carpet Ahichhatra in Ramnagar of Amla tehsil, about 50 km from Bareilly headquarters. Ahichhatra is an important pilgrimage site for Jain religions, where the 23rd Jain Tirthankara Parshwanath attained Kaivalya knowledge. According to the monuments, Parshwanath came here during the Vihar. It is said that Mahatma Buddha came in Ahichhatra. Here he initiated religion to Naga kings.
