New Delhi. Have you filed income tax return for the financial year 2024-2025? The last date for filing income tax return of 2024-2025 is close. Every year the Central Board of Direct Taxes i.e. CBDT has been giving time till July 31 to file income tax return. This time CBDT has extended the last date for filing income tax returns to 15 September 2025. You will have to pay a fine for not filling income tax returns till this date. Therefore, it is better to file your income tax return by 15 September.
The CBDT had increased the date of submission of income tax returns this year due to updated form and operational preparations. The department made some income tax return form live late on its website. The Income Tax Department had lived the ITR-7 form on 22 August 2025. Earlier on August 15, ITR-3 and ITR-4 form was lived live. According to the Income Tax Department website, more than 5 crore people have filed ITR so far. The deadline was not extended and if you filed an ITR after September 15, it can be fined under Section 234F.
The Income Tax Department can also delay in refunds if ITR is delayed. All the people probably hope that CBDT will once again increase the deadline for filing income tax returns, but nothing has been said by the board. In such a situation, you should file your income tax return by 15 September. So that fines and late refunds can be avoided. Let us know that in the financial year 2023-2024, more than 8.09 crore people had filed income tax returns. Earlier in the financial year 2022-2023, more than 7.40 crore people had filled ITR. Let us know that after the Modi government assumed power, the rules of income tax have become simple. Also, the exemption limit in the current financial year has also been increased to Rs 12 lakh.
