The love story of Hema Malini and Dharmendra has been one of the most talked about and memorable love stories of Bollywood. They were first seen together in the 1970 film “Tu Haseen Main Jawan”. During this time a deep relationship formed between them. However, it was not easy, as Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur at the time and had four children.
In her book, “Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl”, Hema Malini opened up about difficult and personal decisions in her relationship. She told that she decided to separate from Dharmendra to maintain peace and respect. She said, “I did not want to interfere in anyone’s life. I am happy with whatever Dharam ji did for me and my daughters.”
“People pointed fingers, made allegations”
Hema said that she was often called the “other woman” and had to face harsh comments from the society. But he never regretted choosing Dharmendra. Hema said, “People would point fingers, talk about us. But I knew he made me happy, and that was all I wanted.
‘I am happy, no need for monitoring’
Hema also clarified that the reality is completely different from the way people see their marriage. Hema said, “I am not a police officer to keep an eye on him. I don’t need to prove how often he meets me. He knows his father’s duties very well; I didn’t need to remind him.”
‘No one wants to live like this, but I accepted it’
In an old interview, Hema had said, “Nobody wants to live like this, but sometimes circumstances demand it. I have no complaints. I am happy with my children and I have raised them well.” Dharmendra has four children with his first wife Prakash Kaur: Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta and Ajeeta, while Hema has two daughters: Esha and Ahana Deol. Despite years of hardship and taunts and comments, Hema and Dharmendra’s relationship remains strong – based not on traditions, but on understanding, respect and true love.
