New Delhi, November 12 (IANS). Hot flashes become a common thing for a woman going through menopause. It is a common symptom in which suddenly one feels heat in the body, sweats and then in the next moment one feels cold. The main reason for this is considered to be the falling level of estrogen hormone. This problem can last from a few months to years and for its treatment, lifestyle changes, hormone replacement therapy or taking medicine prescribed by the doctor are recommended.

This is a period that disrupts sleep and daily life; for some women it can last up to 13 years. But so far, no studies have shown hypnosis to reduce vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes and night sweats) that menopausal women experience in later life, but a recent study has pointed to this.

This study suggests a surprising new method for treating one of the most uncomfortable symptoms of menopause. And this method does not use any patches, pills or creams.

A study published in JAMA included 250 postmenopausal participants, in which some participants hypnotized themselves, while the rest resorted to fake hypnotism.

Result? After six weeks, the self-hypnotized group experienced far fewer hot flashes. He felt less than 53%.

Although traditional hormone therapy is common, for some women, especially those who have battled breast cancer (the 25% of women in the study), non-hormonal treatments such as hypnosis may be a better option.

Hormonal treatments may increase the risk of developing certain cancers, such as breast or uterine. There is also a chance of stroke, heart disease, or blood clots.

Hypnosis is not a brand-new treatment for hot flashes, as previous studies have shown that hypnosis performed under expert supervision results in less and much less sweating. However, if someone wants to try it himself, the benefit to him is negligible and he becomes a victim of irritation.

Even the Menopause Society recommended clinical hypnosis to treat these symptoms in 2023.
