New Delhi, November 14 (IANS). The Center has asked insurance companies and hospitals to expeditiously implement measures such as joining the National Health Claims Exchange, formulating standard treatment protocols and seamless cashless claims processing to make healthcare affordable and accessible to all. This information was given in the official statement on Friday.

M. Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, chaired a meeting with insurance companies and hospitals in which issues like inflation and rising premium costs in the health sector were discussed.

The meeting was attended by representatives of General Insurance Council, Association of Healthcare Providers in India (AHPI), Max Healthcare, Fortis Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals and representatives of insurance companies such as New India Assurance Company Limited, Star Health Insurance and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company.

He said that all insurance companies should have standard hospital panel rules, so that all policyholders have access to continuous cashless treatment. This will also reduce the pressure on the hospital administration and operations will become easier.

The Secretary of the Department of Financial Services said that insurance companies should provide better service to policyholders and expedite claims.

During the meeting he further said that although medical inflation is linked to various cost factors, there is a need for greater collaboration between hospitals and insurance companies through cost control and standardization to bring transparency and efficiency to ensure better value for health insurance policy holders.

In this meeting, General Insurance Council Secretary General Inderjit Singh, Apollo Hospitals MD Dr. Sunita Reddy, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals MD Shivkumar Pattabhiraman, Max Healthcare CMD Abhay Soi, AHPI Director General Dr. Girdhar J. Gyani, Niva Bupa Health Insurance CEO Krishnan Ramachandran, Star Health Insurance ED and COO Amitabh Jain, Oriental Insurance Company General Manager Meera Parthasarathy and other parties.
