New Delhi, 12 September (). The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of a serious matter, in which a social worker and advocate complained about selling banned knives on ‘Amazonadotin’. In this case, the Commission has ordered the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to submit the action report (ART) within 10 days.

The social worker alleged in the complaint that openly banned knives were being sold on the e-commerce platform ‘Amazondotin’, which is an offense under the Indian laws, especially under the Arms Act, 1959. He said that these knives can cause threat to public safety and are violating local laws. He requested the National Human Rights Commission to intervene immediately on the issue.

The National Human Rights Commission, considering this complaint seriously, has ordered to issue a notice under Section 12. The Commission saw the allegations as ‘initially as serious human rights violation’ and directed the Secretary of the Ministry to investigate. The Commission also said that there should be a detailed investigation on violations of Arms Act, 1959 and its impact on public safety.

The Commission also ordered the concerned Ministry to submit the action report to the Commission within 10 days. Information about this case has also been given to the Department of Internal Security, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The complainant said that these knives, which are sold on ‘Amazendotin’, not only cause threat to public safety, but also violate local laws. He also said that the sale of such products can promote violence and crime in local markets, which is a violation of human rights.

Now the National Human Rights Commission has issued instructions to the officials concerned for a detailed investigation on the matter. Also, the Commission has also ordered to ensure that all procedures in this case are transparent and complete soon.
