New Delhi, November 1 (IANS). The government is not considering any proposal to merge basic salary with DA. This information was given by the government in Parliament on Monday.
This statement from the government has come at a time when there is a lot of speculation regarding the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. The new statement will bring more clarity regarding this.
Giving a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary said that the Central Government is not considering any plan to merge the existing Dearness Allowance (DA) with the basic salary.
Chaudhary responded to questions pointing out that central government employees and pensioners are grappling with the highest inflation seen in three decades and the DA and DR revisions are not in line with the current retail inflation.
Since the government announced the terms of the 8th Pay Commission in November, employee unions have also been demanding merger of 50 percent DA in the basic salary.
The government recently rejected a viral social media post which claimed that retired government employees will stop getting the benefits of increase in dearness allowance (DA) and future pay commissions under the Finance Act 2025.
“This claim is fake. Rule 37 of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021 has been amended to state that if a PSU employee is dismissed for misconduct, his retirement benefits will be forfeited,” the government said in a post on social media platform ‘X’.
The recent amendment pertains only to a small group under the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, where Rule 37 (29C) was amended after consultation with the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare and the Finance Ministry.
