New Delhi. Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to visit India on 4-5 December. Ahead of Putin’s proposed visit, Russian Presidential Office Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov spoke to Indian journalists through video conferencing and answered their questions. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov talked about several issues including relations between India and Russia, oil purchases, defense and economic cooperation, US tariffs on India. During this he also mentioned Delhi blast. He said that Russia is fully aware of India’s concerns and the problem of trade deficit. We are considering increasing imports from India.

Dmitry Peskov said, India is a great partner of ours, we hope that President Putin’s visit to India will be as successful as Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Moscow a year ago. The Kremlin spokesperson further said that Moscow and New Delhi are working together to increase India’s exports. Despite US sanctions, Russia is trying to ensure that oil trade volumes do not decline. On the US imposing higher tariffs on India for buying oil from Russia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, we cannot interfere in diplomatic relations between the US and India. We understand that there is pressure on India. This is why we have to be careful in creating an architecture of relations that is free from the influence of any third country.

The Kremlin spokesperson said, we know that India is very free in determining its national interest and we admire this characteristic of India. On Delhi terrorist blast, Peskov said, we strongly condemn terrorism. Our country has suffered a lot due to terrorism. We know that India has faced this threat many times. We believe that the only way to deal with terrorism is through international cooperation.
