Lucknow . Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has raised direct questions on the Yogi government regarding the SIR process on the social media platform ‘X’. He said that the government should make clear information about what percentage of SIR has been completed so far in Uttar Pradesh, today itself. He also expressed serious concern about the increasing pressure on BLOs. Akhilesh Yadav said through ‘X’ post that the ‘deadly pressure’ on the BLO should be removed immediately and additional authorized employees should be deployed as per the time. He alleged that the ruling party and people associated with it are interfering in the process through the back door. Yadav demanded that such activities be stopped immediately and it should be ensured that such incidents do not happen again.
Along with this, he made another big allegation that in many assembly constituencies, a conspiracy is being hatched to remove the names of people of PDA (Backward-Dalit-Minority) community from the voter list. He said that there should be a thorough investigation in every assembly and such attempts should be stopped under any circumstances.
It may be noted that Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa has instructed all the District Election Officers across the state to complete the SIR in a timely and quality manner. The Chief Electoral Officer said that till now digitization of counting forms of more than 12.69 crore (about 82 percent) voters has been completed in the state. Along with this, 100% digitization work has been successfully completed by BLO at 28,491 booths.
He appealed to all the eligible voters of the state that those citizens who have not yet been able to provide their counting form to the BLO, should fill the counting form and submit it immediately without waiting for the last date. Rinwa said that the Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for SIR to December 11, 2025.
Let us tell you that on Thursday, the Supreme Court took a very strict stance on the cases of deaths of BLOs during the SIR process. While hearing the petition of Tamil Nadu political party TVK, the court was told that till now 35-40 BLOs have died across the country due to excessive work pressure. The petitioner had also demanded compensation to the victims’ families.
The court had said that additional staff should be deployed so that working hours can be reduced.
The Supreme Court had also said that employees working sick, helpless or under extreme pressure should be exempted on a case-to-case basis and other employees should be immediately appointed in their place.
