Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Trust took this step, recognizing the role of a squirrel in the Ramayana. Let us tell you that the statue of squirrel has been installed in a place from which it seems that the squirrel is looking towards the temple. Let us know what was the role of a squirrel in the Ramayana and why his contribution was special.
Role of squirrel in Ramayana
According to Valmiki Ramayana, when Ram Setu was being constructed by the monkey army to reach Mata Sita, a squirrel was also present there. When the apes were throwing big stones in the bridge construction, a small squirrel was also throwing pebbles and sands in the sea. The squirrel was doing this work with full dedication and was contributing to the bridge construction. Seeing him doing this, the monkey used to make fun of him and used to tell him that you are very small and will be buried under the stones, so go from here.
When Shri Ram came to know about this, he intervened and told the monkeys that small pebbles and sand brought to the bridge by the squirrel are strengthening the bridge and filling the bridge holes. That is, Lord Shri Ram also gave full credit to the contribution of the squirrel, after which the monkeys apologized for their mistake. It is believed that during this time Shri Ram held the squirrel in his hand and lovingly caressed the squirrel with three fingers of his other hand and since then three lines have emerged on the squirrel’s back. These three lines reflect the love and affection of Lord Rama. Lord Shri Ram praised the work of the squirrel and gave the message that every person or life, whether small or big, is important. The work done with dedication and loyalty never goes in vain.
