It is almost impossible to provide jobs to everyone in such a huge country, but the central and state governments are today engaged in making people, especially women, self-reliant through many schemes. In this sequence, ‘Jeevika Didi’ in Bihar is not only becoming self-reliant, but is also showing the path of employment to hundreds of women by becoming CM (Community Motivator) in their respective areas. The stories emerging from Peerpainti, Sabour and Jagdishpur blocks of Bhagalpur district are a living example of this change. In a program organized at the Town Hall of Bhagalpur, Vijay Kumar Nivruti Kamble, Executive Director of Bihar’s lead bank UCO Bank, had an emotional conversation with more than a thousand ‘Jeevika Didi’ on the importance of financial assistance for self-employment. On this platform, Rekha Devi of Hardevchak Panchayat of Peerpainti block shared her struggle story. Inter pass Rekha Devi told that we have received assistance of Rs 4.40 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Processing Scheme (PMFME). With this amount, she started the business of manufacturing spices, bought a packaging machine and today is producing organic sattu, flour, masala, papad, badi, pickles and mushrooms. We did not have much money earlier, ever since we started working, some money has started coming.
Swarn Sandhya Bharti of Sabour, while talking to , said, “We are doing mushroom cultivation. We are getting a lot of benefit from it. We had started mushroom production after taking training from Bihar Agricultural University and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Along with this, after getting the assistance of Rs 10 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Scheme (PMEGP), today every room of her house is a center of mushroom production. Earlier we did not have it, but today with the help of PMEGP, our good days are back.”
Speaking to , Farhana from Puraini village of Jagdishpur said, “Earlier we did not do anything, but ever since we joined the group and took a loan of Rs 50,000, we started our own work. Today we have started weaving our own silk sarees and today we are making sarees on order and delivering them to many families. 150 women are working with me.” He wholeheartedly thanked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for this assistance.
UCO Bank ED Vijay Kamble told that financially empowering women through entrepreneurship changes the face of not only the family but the entire society. ‘Jeevika Didi’ has truly emerged as the new CM of development in Bihar.
