Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Avinya will be launched late next year and its first model may come in a sportback body style.
Tata has big plans to launch many new electric vehicles in the next five years. The company’s initial strategy for 2026 has also been revealed. After selling over 2.5 lakh EVs in just five years and the Nexon EV crossing the 1 lakh units mark, Tata is now focusing more on its premium electric vehicles.
Tata will officially introduce three new electric cars next year, including the Sierra EV, the facelifted Punch EV and the first model of the all-new Avinya electric sub-brand. Sierra EV will be one of the first cars to be launched among these three. Considering the great response received by the Sierra with IC engine, its electric version will come with two battery pack options and will give a range of more than 500 kilometers on a single charge. It will enter the midsize electric SUV segment and will form an important link between Tata’s mainstream EV range and more premium offerings.
At the same time, the Punch EV facelift coming in the first half of 2026 will also get many updates inside and out, due to which it will retain its hold among the mass-market customers. But the biggest and important project is Avinya. Launched by the end of 2026, Avinya will not be a single car, but an entire range of electric vehicles positioned above Tata’s existing cars.
Internally, Tata has five models planned under Avinya, codenamed P1 to P5. These will come in different body styles, including sportback, SUV and a large luxury utility vehicle. The first Avinya model will be the P1, a sportback-style EV loosely inspired by the Avinya concept shown in 2022. Its price is expected to be above Rs 35 lakh and its annual sales target has been kept at around 24,000 units.
This model will be manufactured at Tata’s Sanand factory, which the company had earlier purchased from Ford. After this, Tata will also launch models with larger and more traditional designs. The P4 is expected to be a lifestyle SUV around the size of the Range Rover Velar, while the P5 will be a top-positioned full-size, three-row luxury SUV. Apart from this, Tata is also working on bringing a 4.4 meter long compact premium SUV and about 5 meter long luxury MPV-style electric vehicle.
All cars in the Avinya range will be based on Jaguar Land Rover’s born-electric EMA platform, which Tata plans to localize for India by taking a license. The platform supports advanced ADAS, software-defined vehicle technologies, over-the-air updates, and next-generation electrical systems.
